Children's Minnesota Music Therapist - Casual Hours - Rotating Locations in Minneapolis, Minnesota

This position is casual without a set schedule. This position is required to pick p open shifts during weekend hours to cover PTO, sick time, and LOA between sites: Minneapolis & St. Paul Hospital, and our Lakeville Clinic. Department Overview The Child Life group promotes the continuous development of children to optimize their responses to medical care, to minimize psychological stress and trauma, and to increase understanding and coping with illness and health care experiences. Child Life provides children with opportunities for gaining a sense of mastery, for play, for learning, for self-expression, for family involvement and for peer interaction. As members of the health care team, child life staff advocate for children and families in ambulatory and inpatient settings. They serve as resources to all staff and to the community on issues related to child development and child health experiences. Position Summary The Music Therapist will provide individual and group sessions to fulfill therapeutic objectives, including but not limited to: anxiety reduction, pain management, developmental stimulation, alternative means of expression/communication, positive coping techniques, procedural support, quality of life and family/patient support. The Music Therapist will be a member of the Child Life Department and complement one another's work in meeting the psychosocial and developmental needs of patients and families. The Music Therapist will also provide educational presentations to the staff, volunteers and community as needed. Qualifications * Ability to function in an interdisciplinary work environment without direct supervision. * Must be Board Certified or certification in process. * NMT training or experience preferred and NICU-MT training or experience preferred. * Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Music Therapy. * One-year paid experience as a Music Therapist preferred. * One year of prior music therapy work experience with children and families preferred. * Experience in program development preferred. * Ability to identify and receive referrals from hospital staff and to prioritize patients based on needs and schedules. * Ability to accurately assess developmental needs of patients/families and establish a plan of care. * Ability to document patient goals and objectives. * Ability to evaluate the impact of and progress of music therapy interventions. * Excellent time management skills. * Willingness and ability to collaborate with other healthcare professionals. * Highly proficient guitar and vocal skills. * BLS Certification required. * Basic computer skills.
