UnityPoint Health Radiation Therapist Lead in Moline, Illinois

Assists radiation therapy staff in the delivery of radiation treatments via the linear accelerator. Demonstrates proficiency in performing all radiation treatments and CT simulations, and other related patient care services. Is responsible for staff orientation, ongoing educational training and competencies.

Job Performance

  • Develops and updates Policy and Procedure Manual.

  • Assists in the selection of new employees.

  • Assists in the selection of new technology and implementation of new procedures.

  • Performs department specific staff orientations, ongoing education and competencies.

  • Coordinates with department manager regarding equipment service issues.

  • Develops modality monthly staff work schedule.

  • Addresses clinical patient care questions from staff and escalates as necessary.

  • Addresses any patient satisfaction concerns as they arise and reports/escalates as necessary.

  • Reviews and approves staff time cards.

  • Serves as expert for work flow improvements.

  • Attends the following weekly meetings: Chart rounds, Care rounds and give input to assist in the care and treatment of our patients.

  • Attends the following monthly meetings: ROILS, Technical meeting to review and resolve incidents, work with safety officer and manager as needed to improve processes.

  • Attends the following quarterly meetings: Trinity College of Nursing and Allied Health advisory board meeting.

  • Assists in trials of new products or services.

  • Assists with finding continuing education opportunities for staff.

  • Reviews monthly billing audit reports. Addresses any changes that are required to meet the coding/billing regulations.

  • Works with the coding auditors daily and modifies documentation as instructed regarding staging, billing, insurance, etc.

  • Meet with providers as needed to discuss scheduling concerns.

  • Works with college instructors to schedule student rotations and shadowing.

  • Works closely with all students in the department to ensure patient safety and department protocols are being followed. Completes the monthly reports required for all students.

  • Works closely with other affiliates and provides process and education feedback.

  • Gives input to department manager in the evaluation process of employees.

  • Works closely with the radiation safety officer to ensure proper protocols are adhered to.

  • Demonstrates competency in preparing patients for treatments and CT simulations.

  • Correctly performs all prescribed treatment/procedures in an efficient manner.

  • Is able to work independently and critique exams.

  • Utilizes good judgment to plan effectively and solve problems.

  • Is cognizant of radiation safety to self and others.

  • Demonstrates competency in the storage and transfer of exams.

Patient Care

  • Provides patient education and insures correct consent forms are signed.

  • Obtains and records adequate patient history and interprets physician's orders correctly.

  • Correctly orders, tracks and charges treatments/CT simulations in a timely fashion.

Quality Improvement

  • Assures that equipment is in proper working order and performs all necessary quality control testing.

  • Completes incident reports as needed.

  • Participates in performance improvement initiatives as needed.

Education: Graduate of a JRCERT approved school for Radiologic Technology or Radiation Therapy, with equivalent training and experience as required by the

licensing bodies.

Experience: 2-5 years’ experience in Radiation Therapy.

License(s)/Certification(s): The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in both Radiology and Radiation Therapy. Current license or conditional license from the State of Illinois Emergency Management Agency and/or the Iowa Department of Public Health. CPR certification required. Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.
