Naval Medical Command RESPIRATORY THERAPIST in Naval Medical Center, Virginia

Summary You will serve as a Respiratory Therapist in the Pulmonary, Director Medical Services of NMRTC PORTSMOUTH VA. This is a Direct Hiring Authority (DHA) Announcement. Responsibilities You will serve as the technician in charge of various critical care units. You will be required to carry out the most complex and new procedures and operate any equipment for which accepted practices have not been established. You will adjust medical apparatus according to patients clinical conditions. You will actively participate in formulating and planning experimental research procedures involving new techniques and documents results. You will take active roles under technical directors in the training of respiratory Therapy personnel, Physicians, and other medical personnel. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-06 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Examples of Qualifying Experience: Administering assisted and controlled ventilation to patients; Performing and interpreting results of sophisticated pulmonary function testing; Performing endotracheal intubation in emergency situations; Recommending possible alternatives to therapy involving respiratory drugs, their uses, preparation, dosages, indications and contraindications; Administering special ventilatory techniques, such as positive and expiratory pressures, continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP), Synchronous Intermittent Mandatory Ventilation (SIMV), High Frequency Jet Ventilation (HFJV), Airway Pressure Release Ventilation (APRV), interpretation of blood gases, and the adjustment of ventilator settings; Maintaining and calibrating complex respiratory equipment; Training Respiratory Therapy personnel, physicians, and other medical personnel. Additional Information This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program. This position requires rotating shift work. The position often requires irregular hours.
