Associated Medical Professionals (A.M.P.) is recruiting for a Radiation Therapist. This position will cover both the Syracuse and New Hartford offices.

Our talented radiation oncology team consists of three physicians, two physicists, two dosimetrists, and eleven therapists. Our vision at A.M.P. is to remain the region's premier urology/radiation oncology group practice.

Essential Functions:

  • Checks prescriptions, diagnoses, electronic charts, and patient identifications.

  • Explains procedures to the patient and advises the patient regarding reactions to treatment.

  • You will prepare the treatment room and equipment, including immobilization devices and radiation accessories, for each patient according to the Doctor's prescription.

  • Transfers patients safely to the treatment couch, giving special care to catheters, I.V.s, and oxygen.

  • Performs all imaging as prescribed and documents according to office policy; follows all mandated supervision requirements.

  • You will accurately deliver the prescribed planned radiation therapy course under the Radiation Oncologist and Radiation Administrator's general supervision.

  • Maintains visual and audio communication with the patient receiving treatment at all times.

  • Accurately and neatly maintains patient markings and all documentation regarding setup requirements.

  • Observes patient for any unusual reactions or symptoms requiring medical intervention and report these issues to the nurse or the radiation oncologist.

  • Observes radiation safety guidelines at all times for patients and personnel. Always follow ALARA principles.

  • Prepares immobilization devices and performs simulations and treatment planning scans as requested by the radiation oncologist; completes all documentation associated with these procedures.

  • Assists in dosimetry as needed, importing treatment planning scans, contouring, and double-checking monitor unit calculations.

  • Attends chart rounds as rotation requires.

  • You will perform all daily warm-up and quality assurance procedures and report any results outside of the required ranges.

  • Secures and maintains supplies.

  • Reports any faults reported on the linear accelerator to Varian and radiation oncologist/radiation administer. Maintain a log of all reported issues.

  • You will ensure the safe handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials.

  • Submits proper documents to billing to ensure timely billing. Accurately reviews summary of patient’s charges.

  • Responsible for ensuring the safety of the patient throughout the course of the procedure.

  • Participates and collaborates in accreditations and special projects of S.R.O. as required.

  • May be asked to participate in the development of Syracuse Radiation Oncology policies and procedures.

  • You will be required to maintain compliance with all governmental and regulatory requirements.

  • Responsible for promptly completing all A.M.P. mandated training and in-services, including but not limited to annual OSHA training and P.P.D. placements.

  • Maintains licensure and completes all continuing education requirements.

  • You will maintain a high level of patient confidentiality.

  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

Education / Licensure / Experience:

  • Graduate from an accredited Radiologic Therapy Technology program with a current or eligible certificate of registry from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)

  • N.Y. State Licensure required
