Position Description :

Penn Medicine Princeton Health is seeking a Full Time Nutrition Therapist to join the team.


• Works as professional member of interdisciplinary treatment team in general hospital setting, providing nutrition management and nutrition counseling with inpatients and partial hospital patients with a primary diagnosis of an eating disorder from childhood and adolescence and through adulthood.


  1. Individual Nutrition Assessment and Counseling

o Meets individually with each inpatient and partial hospital patient to complete a thorough Nutritional Evaluation and prescribe an appropriate food plan and calorie level.

o Meets with patients as needed to provide nutritional counseling and assist patients in meeting their nutritional goals.

o Coordinates and plans patient menus with patient’s family, patient, or patient and family according to patient age and cognitive abilities, as determined by treatment team.

  1. Family Meal Support

o Participates in Family Meals, initially in conjunction with therapist and later as determined by treatment team.

o Provides family education for parents of all minor patients and older patients as determined by treatment team, via family meetings, phone consultation and other available means.

o Works with families of minor patients, along with the patient, to set appropriate nutrition goals.

o Provides support for “unsupervised” family meals on the unit.

  1. Treatment Planning and Care Coordination

o Contributes to the overall treatment plan for each patient by formulating individualized and age appropriate short term, intermediate and long term nutritional goals.

o Implements nutritional restoration/behavior modification interventions as agreed upon by treatment team, including calorie increases and decreases.

o Attends treatment rounds as scheduled providing input to and being open to input from other members of multidisciplinary team, providing information back to nutrition team.

o Interacts with Hospital Dietary Department to ensure accurate and timely delivery of meals and facilitate dietary requirements of eating disorder patients.

  1. Conducts nutrition education groups and nutrition process groups as scheduled.

  2. Works approximately one weekend per month to provide nutrition services and coverage to the CEDC.


  1. Is able to provide age appropriate care as indicated by knowledge of the principle of growth and development over the life span and ability to assess and interpret data relative to patient's age.

  2. Provides coverage for meal time monitoring, as needed.

  3. Weighs patients.

  4. Documents all therapeutic interactions, significant contacts with patient/family/other providers, therapeutic goals, and other data in concise, readable format in the electronic medical record on a timely basis, in accordance with Policies and Procedures.

  5. Maintains all standards of confidentiality. Interacts professionally, respectfully and flexibly with patients, families and staff in performance of daily duties.

  6. Participates in program educational activities and marketing activities, such as:

o Speaking engagements

o Writing professional articles

o Providing in-service education

o Cultivating new referral sources

o Attending conferences and bringing information back to program in the form of program development, in-service education, etc.

  1. Training and Education

o Attends scheduled staff meetings and in-services.

o Complies with continuing education requirements of field and completes required annual competencies.

  1. Participates in hospital and program Performance Improvement goals.

  2. Performs all other related duties as assigned and requested.

Minimum Requirements :



• Bachelors Degree in Dietetics or Nutrition

Related Work Experience

• Minimum Experience: Previous experience in treating eating disorders.

• Preferred Experience: 2 years experience in inpatient and outpatient settings - treating eating disorders.


• R.D. or R.D.-eligible (RD must be obtained within six months of hire)
