Position Description :

Penn Medicine Princeton Health is seeking a Full Time Senior Primary Therapist to join the team located in Plainsboro, NJ.

Please note this location is 5 Plainsboro Rd, Plainsboro, NJ but has the opportunity to be remote.


Provides comprehensive behavioral health assessments and evidence-based Psychotherapy with adult populations in individual, family, and group settings. Collaborates with providers across the physician practice network to ensure continuity of care, while integrating mental health professionals into the primary care setting.


  1. Assesses patient and family psychosocial risk factors through evaluation of prior functioning levels, support systems, reaction to illness and ability to cope. Performs pre-surgical psychiatric clearances.

  2. Provides individual, family and group psychotherapy using a variety of evidence-based treatment modalities, i.e. cognitive behavioral therapy, interpersonal psychotherapy, motivational interviewing, etc.). Educates patients and their families on health promotion and maintenance.

  3. Participates in case conferences and consultations with the treatment team. Notifies medical providers of significant changes in patient status and/or the need for referrals.

  4. Completes clinical notes and other documentation in the electronic medical record according to organizational guidelines, federal and state regulations.

  5. Facilitates referrals to more intensive levels of service and support programs that enhance patient and family ability to cope with physical, emotional and environmental issues.


  1. Partners with a multidisciplinary team, including primary care providers and specialists across the practice network. Identifies changes in patients' clinical status and communicates with appropriate members of the treatment team.

  2. Maintains the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to meet the psychological and social needs of diverse patient populations. Participates in educational events at Princeton House to foster collaboration and growth.

  3. Meets requirements for mandatory/continuing education, skills competency and licensure/certification. Adheres to local, state and federal regulations, as well as social work association standards.

  4. Administers behavioral health screening and psychosocial assessment tools. Reviews and interprets data for diagnosis and treatment of patient conditions.

  5. Travels to practice locations to provide services as assigned. Conducts patient visits in-person and/or via telemedicine, according to departmental guidelines.

  6. Assists in the orientation and training of new personnel and students.

  7. Maintains patient privacy and standards of confidentiality.

  8. Participates in departmental and system-wide performance improvement initiatives. Represents the department in committees and workgroups.

  9. Attends clinical supervision and team meetings as scheduled.

  10. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements :


Masters Degree: MSW

Related Work Experience

0-1 years - Required

2-4 years - Preferred

Licensure, Certifications or Registration Requirements:

NJ Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) - Required

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Certification - Desired

Specialized Skills & Knowledge Requirements:

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) - Desired

Previous outpatient experience - Desired
