UnityPoint Health Respiratory Therapist Lead in Rock Island, Illinois

$5,000 SIGN ON BONUS

Respiratory Therapist Leads are expected to perform duties similar to clinical staff 25%-75% of the time with the rest devoted to administrative duties consistent with the daily operation activities of within the department. Will be responsible for ensuring that clinical staff are assigning appropriately, assist in the hiring process, monitor and assess work of others, provide education and instruction when necessary, assist in annual competency completion, and work with other departments on committee’s as assigned.

Clinical Excellence/Patient Care

  • Serves as the clinical expert as it pertains to field of respiratory care and associated information/reporting systems.

  • Provide respiratory care modalities, therapies and diagnostic testing; including oxygen therapies and medication delivery.

  • Promptly completes documentation to assure an accurate legal record of services provided.

  • Provides education to the patient and their family.

Equipment

  • Process and provide various equipment, necessary to carry out assigned duties including diagnostic and ventilator support of patients both invasive and non-invasive.

  • Serves as the clinical expert and resource as it pertains to the operation and maintenance of respiratory equipment.

  • Assures that all equipment is in good working condition

  • Monitor equipment rental usage and adjust according to need.

Department/Service Quality Indicators.

  • Monitor and assignments appropriately per departmental standards

  • Assigns staff per established department standards

  • Tracks department daily staffing and adjusts as needed

  • Assures charges are entered per established department standards

  • Oversees that all charges are completed, checked and entered each day in each department

  • Identifies and resolves issues within scope of responsibility or involves Manager/Director

Basic UPH Performance Criteria

  • Employee maintains current licenses and/or certifications required for the position.

  • Practices and reflects knowledge of HIPAA, TJC, DNV, OSHA and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare.

  • Completes all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year.

  • Is knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse. Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of hospital administrative staff. Takes appropriate action on concerns reported by department staff related to compliance.

Education:

Holds a degree in allied health. Must hold the RRT credential as awarded by the National Board for Respiratory Care.

Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Experience:

Must have least 1 year of clinical experience.

Licenses/Certifications:

Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.

Iowa licensure within 1 month of hire date.

Illinois licensure within 6 months of hire date (proof of completed and submitted application within the first week of employment). CPR upon hire. ACLS/NRP/PEARS within 6 months from date of hire.

All employees must have their RRT credentialing and keep it Active per the NBRC standards.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Must display initiative, independent judgment, and have supervisory abilities. Must be familiar with and demonstrate competency on :

Humidifiers, O2 therapy related equipment, aerosols, and pulse oximetry.

Nebulizers, inhalers, and applicable medications.

Mechanical percussors, bedside pulmonary screeners, EKG's, and volume expansion therapy.

Emergency airway equipment

Arterial blood gases and trach changes

Adult ventilators (both invasive and non-invasive).

Ability to serve in the charge therapist role as needed.

Serve as a clinical preceptor to students

Equipment and therapies associated with the care of the neonatal population.

Ability to accept assignments at the Moline and Bettendorf Campuses.

Intubation (not required, but within the scope of practice).

Other:

Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position.
