Sacramento Behavioral Healthcare Hospital Adjunctive Therapist (Sacramento) in Sacramento, California

The primary role of the Activities Therapist (AT) II is to plan and implement therapeutic activities including Recreation and Art Therapy services for the Department of Social Services. This includes developing and facilitating clinical group sessions with adults and adolescents and providing continuous patient care, observation, interaction, and role modeling to patients. The Activities Therapist II is responsible for conducting clinical, goal-oriented groups that stimulate positive mental growth, teach coping skills, relaxation and appropriate social interactions, and allow our clients to express themselves creatively. Groups facilitated by the Activities Therapist II include Leisure Education and Creative Self Expression (for Art Therapists). Individual Intervention treatment will be provided as alternative to group treatment as needed. Serves as a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team providing services to adults, adolescents or child patients under Sacramento Behavioral Health Hospital's care for emotional or substance abuse problems.

Requirements

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree, from an accredited college or university, in Recreation Administration, with a Therapeutic Recreation option OR Master’s Degree, from an accredited college or university, in Art Therapy.

  • Two years (2), or more, of related experience, with knowledge of psychiatric patient care techniques with understanding of mental illness, preferred.

  • Hold a current certification: Recreation Therapist Certified (RTC), Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS), Art Therapist Registered (ATR) and/or Art Therapist Registered and Board Certified (ATR-BC) or be eligible to sit for exam and obtain certification within 1 year of working.

  • Current Basic Life Support Certification

  • Current Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training or obtained within 60 days of employment.

  • Demonstrated group process, teaching or training skills.

  • Experience in psychiatric care environment preferred.

  • Maintains confidentiality of patients at all times.

  • Sensitivity to and willingness to interact with persons of various social, cultural, economic and educational backgrounds.

  • Proficiency with software and/or equipment (Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint).

  • Strong organizational skills with ability to prioritize projects, work relatively independently, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Good judgment, problem-solving and decision-making skills.

  • Demonstrated commitment to working collaboratively as well as possessing the skills to lead, influence, and motivate others.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, expanding organization.

Physical Requirements:

  • While performing the duties of this job, this position is frequently required to do the following:

  • Use standard office equipment and access, input, and retrieve information from a computer. Use computer keyboard with manual and finger dexterity and wrist-finger speed sufficient to perform repetitive actions efficiently for extended periods of time.

  • Communicate effectively in person or via telephone in a manner which can be understood by those with whom the person is speaking, including a diverse population.

  • Give and follow verbal and written instructions with attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Perform complex mental functions and basic arithmetic functions; interpret complex laws, regulations, and policies; collect, interpret, and/or analyze complex data and information.

  • Vision: See details of objects at close range.

  • Coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously.

  • Reach forward, up, down, and to the side.

  • Sit or stand for minimum periods of one hour at a time and come and go from the work area repeatedly throughout the day.

  • Lift up to five (5) pounds.
