Slidell Memorial Hospital Radiation Therapist- SMH Cancer Center - PRN in Slidell, Louisiana

Responsible for accurate, complete and timely application and execution of a planned course of radiotherapy according to the prescription and instruction of the Radiation Oncologist along with assisting physicians in mapping of the radiation fields during the simulation process. The Therapist assists in the efforts of medical physics management, nursing, secretarial and other technical staffs to provide concise and comprehensive care for all patients. Major Duties: Meets organizational expectations as defined by the Employee Standards of Performance, hospital and department policies and procedures, and the hospital’s strategic goals. Verbalizes a clear understanding of continuous quality improvement and customer satisfaction measures and actively participates in improvement initiatives. Performs d aily equipment warm-up and quality assurance. Accurately carrys out the treatment prescription and documents legibly in the patient's chart. Imaging and microdosimetry are taken and approved on all patients. Patients are educated regarding procedures, skin care, side effects and nutrition. Patients are observed daily for physical and emotional changes, side effects and nutrition needs. Responsible for weighing patients, ordering labwork and arranging for patients to be seen weekly by Radiation Oncologist. Assist physicians in simulation and records parameters accurately. Performs simple dose calculations. Accurately enter patient charges daily into billing system. Available to take call on a rotational basis. Performs other duties as assigned or directed to ensure smooth operation of the organization. Education/Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Preferred: Knowledge of treatment planning. Bachelor of Science Degree. 1-2 yrs experience as a staff therapist, e xperience in brachytherapy and stereotactic radiosurgery. Required: Current knowledge of appropriate clinical practice, radiation protection and quality assurance, patient management and care, charges, basic dosimetry and equipment. Ability to plan and be flexible. Good organizational, critical thinking, prioritizing, problem solving and time management skills. Able to communicate and work in a team approach. Must be able to work unassisted.

Graduate of an accredited school of Radiation Therapy. Experienced in treatment delivery and simulation as a staff therapist or during clinical rotation as a therapy student.

Licensure/Certification: Registered in Radiation Therapy by the ARRT and licensed by the State of Louisiana. CPR current.

Because the incumbent works within a healthcare setting, there may be occupational risk for exposure to hazardous medications or hazardous waste within the environment through receipt, transport, storage, preparation, dispensing, administration, cleaning and/or disposal of contaminated waste. The risk level of exposure may increase depending on the essential job duties of the role.
