The Cancer Rehabilitation and Survivorship Program (CRSP) at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre offers an exciting opportunity for an Occupational or Physical Therapist with lymphedema therapy skills. This permanent position will allow for a lymphedema certified OT or PT to work within a specialized Ambulatory Clinic environment to provide service to individuals with late and persistent effects of all cancers and their families. As a key member of the interdisciplinary health care team you will be responsible for direct patient care, professional outreach, education, networking, research as well as continued program improvement and evaluation. The successful candidate will also teach the necessary skills and strategies to successfully self-manage their lymphedema and lymphedema-associated complications through education, support and hands-on training in one-on-one and group based classes. You will perform skills teaching in the areas of lymphatic self-massage, compression bandaging, kinesiotaping, manual techniques for axillary web syndrome, scar massage, and decongestive exercise.
You will act as a community resource to clinicians regarding care for patients with late and persistent effects of cancer treatment, esp. lymphedema, and will build on established networks to explore further opportunities to integrate or better coordinate services, as appropriate for lymphedema care. This position is made possible through the generous donation and support of the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation.
Ideally, the successful candidate will have experience with working in an oncology setting. The successful candidate will work in close collaboration with other CRSP staff as well as other cancer rehabilitation partners. The successful candidate will have dual accountability to the manager of the CRSP and receive guidance from the OT or PT Discipline Head, respectively. The successful candidate will participate in program meetings and in-services and be supported by their professional colleagues. He or she will be responsible for providing service in accordance with UHN standards of care, recording workload measurement statistics and performing other duties consistent with the job classification, as required.
At minimum, a completion of a Bachelor or Masters of Science degree in Occupational or Physical Therapy
Current registration with the College of Occupational Therapists or physical Therapists of Ontario is required
Minimum, three (3) to five (5) years of clinical and/or professional experience
Completion of Combined Decongestive Certified Training
Experience with Combined Decongestive Therapy for Lymphedema is an required
Membership with National and Provincial Professional Associations is preferred
Experience with patients with cancer and with knowledge of appropriate care and service for these patients
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Excellent interpersonal, presentation and networking skills
Excellent teamwork skills and proven ability to work as part of a high performing multi-professional care team
Passion for professional education and development
Self-directed with excellent time management and organizational skills
Experience in facilitating group classes preferred
Skills in supporting a behavior change in patients an asset
Knowledge of research design and statistics is an asset
